Reading an entire book in just two sittings (or on the rare occasion, a single sitting) is always a huge sign of a great story-telling ability. Keija Parssinen’s The Unraveling of Mercy Louis is only the second book this year that has had me wishing I could read at a much faster speed. The Cake House by Latifah Salom

Latifah Salom’s debut novel, The Cake House is, supposedly, a modern-day spin on Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Although I couldn’t say how much of a spin it is since I’ve never read Hamlet and I’m not at all familiar with the plot. Still, this did not have an adverse effect on my enjoyment of Salom’s book. At first thought, February has been pretty uneventful if you remove the weather (which has been terrible, but I’m not going to talk about that!). When browsing Spring book releases a few months ago, I glanced over The Bookseller. It initially caught my eye due to obvious reasons (which book lover doesn’t want to read a book with book in the title? Too many books in that sentence?), as soon as I read Sliding Doors in the synopsis I moved on. That was a movie I wasn’t a fan off, and I wasn’t inclined to read a book that went back and forth possibly leading to much confusion (I’m easily confused).
