About Me

Apparently an “about me” page is the most important, and likely to become the most read page, on a blog! I’m not so sure that I agree but thought that I should update it anyway.

If you are reading this page then you are probably here to find out more about me and what you can expect from My Novel Opinion. Am I right? So here it goes:

I’m Helen – It’s nice to meet you! Thanks for stopping by, I really do appreciate it!

I was born and raised about 20 miles outside of Manchester, England. I grew up with my entire family living within 5 miles of each other. A far cry from where I am now!

We (my husband and I) made the live changing decision to relocate to the U. S. We arrived in 2007 with our two-year-old daughter, five suitcases and ten boxes. Needless to say we were starting over! After a short time in Florida, we moved again. Northern New Jersey has been our home ever since, and we have never looked back.

Besides working full time (in the travel industry), being a wife and a mom to Emily (11) and Jack (6), I read…A LOT!

I grew up loving Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton, R. L. Stine (Goosebumps and Point Horror) and many children’s classics – think along the lines of Little Women, The Borrowers and The Railway Children. I pretty much read anything I could lay my hands on. Which included my late grandfather’s collection of old leather bound books (wow, they smelt so good!). I read Treasure Island, Tale of Two Cities, The Old Curiosity Shop and a few others that I can’t recall right now, all before I was in High School.

I like to think I have quite an eclectic taste in books but at the same time I know exactly what I like. There’s the:

Auto-buy authors

Cecelia Ahern, Sophie Kinsella, Stephen King

I-keep-going-back-for-more authors

John Grisham, Lisa Jewell, Rowan Coleman

New favorite authors

Diane Chamberlain, Kristin Hannah, Mary Kubica, Liza Palmer, Jojo Moyes

I-read-one-and-want-more authors

Lucy Clarke, Joe Hill, Jamie Ford, Liane Moriarty, Beth Hoffman

Debut-authors-that-need-to-write-more-already

M. L. Stedman, Kristy Woodson Harvey, Carol Rifka Brunt, Colleen Oakley

I’m also trying to read more non-fiction and catch up on the classics I never got around to reading (there are many). I also joined The Classics Club to attempt to remedy that.
