In an effort to be more consistent in the rating of books I read, I will rate as follows:
DNF: Did Not Finish – this doesn’t happen often.
1 out of 5: If it was a struggle to finish the book, and I wouldn’t give it another shot.
2 out of 5: If there are any issues with character or plot.
3 out of 5: If I enjoyed the book but felt there was something missing.
4 out of 5: If I really enjoyed the book and continue to think about it.
5 out of 5: If I can’t stop thinking about the book and I feel it has that special something.
This system is effective as of December 1st, 2013. Any books rated prior to that point do not follow this guideline but I may at some point go through and bring them all in line.
Since not everyone’s 3 or 4 rating is the same, and also because I feel like I have been rating a lot of books a 5 when really they should only be a 4, I hope that this will help me.
