Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Debuts for 2015

Posted 6 January, 2015 in Top Ten Tuesday / 20 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they provide a different prompt and book bloggers, like me, share top ten lists.

This week’s topic is Most Anticipated Debut Novels For 2015.

16 of the 74 books I read last year were debut authors, and the majority were at least a 4-star read. Seven debuts even made it to my best of 2014 list! That being said, it can be difficult to gauge whether a book by a debut author will be a good fit for me or not, since the only thing I have to go off is the synopsis and any publisher blurbs. Here is a list of 10 debut books that have already caught my eye for 2015.

The 10 Best Books I Read in 2014

The details:

  1. Before I Go by Colleen Oakley – January 6th / Gallery Books – I already read this one and it was heartbreaking, look out for my review later this week.
  2. Etta and Otto and Russell and James by Emma Hooper – January 20th / Simon & Schuster – An elderly woman walks across Canada. A journey of rediscovery.
  3. The Sweetheart by Angelina Mirabella – January 20th / Simon & Schuster – Set in the 1950’s, girl next door turns pro-wrestler!
  4. One Step Too Far by Tina Seskis – January 27th / William Morrow – Emily Coleman has everything but one day disappears and starts a new life with a new identity.
  5. The Cake House by Latifah Shalom – March 3rd / Vintage – A reimagining of Hamlet in LA, part coming-of-age, part mystery. Plus ghosts!
  6. The Daughter by Jane Shemilt – March 3rd / William Morrow – A child goes missing and secrets are revealed.
  7. Hugo and Rose by Bridget Foley – May 5th / St. Martin’s Press – Rose finds the man of her dreams, literally!
  8. Come Away With Me by Karma Brown – May 26th / Harlequin MIRA – A devastating car accident sends couple on a journey to forgiveness via Thailand, Italy, Hawaii and more.
  9. Three Rivers by Tiffany Quay Tyson – June 23rd / Thomas Dunne Books – a Southern literary debut telling three parallel stories.
  10. The Coincidence of Coconut Cake by Amy Reichert – July 21st / Gallery Books – Food AND love in Wisconsin.

    • I am going to be so spoiled for choice for reading material the first half of this year, I hope that I’ll still manage to read some of the books I already own. And you are right, I looked at other lists and had to stop myself from adding too many new books to my wishlist!

  1. Thank you so much for including Before I Go (and for showing ti so much love in your review!) And I agree with your list — can’t wait to read The Coincidence of Coconut Cake and Come Away With Me, especially! (And now I want coconut cake).

  2. Thank you for including THE COINCIDENCE OF COCONUT CAKE! I can second that BEFORE I GO is magnificent and I can’t wait to read COME AWAY WITH ME by Karma! The Cake House and Hugo and Rose look wonderful too!

    • Your book sounds right up my alley, Amy, so of course I had to include it! BEFORE I GO was just amazing, I can’t stop recommending it. I’m certainly looking at some great reading material over the next few months.
